In Flanders, a new community of Jesuits will begin at the Old Abbey in Drongen (near Ghent). As a result, some fathers will be leaving the community in Mechelen (near Brussels). Father Toon Suffys has been asked to join the community in Mechelen so that three fathers can serve the church in the city center, similar to the situation at the Krijtberg. Father Suffys will be leaving for Mechelen at the end of September.
He has been in our midst for four years and has been praised for his warm and committed presence. Among other things, his commitment to English speakers has allowed him to be of service to many. He administered many baptisms and accompanied marriages; personally he was also allowed to accompany several people on their path of faith. His many years of pastoral experience have supported and helped us greatly.
The fathers who live and work in the Xavier House (rectory next to the church) will take over his tasks as much as possible. We wish Fr. Suffys an equally fruitful time in Mechelen.
P. Ben Frie, Rector Krijtberg
