We feel powerless, while the images and stories flood us: Ukraine is on fire, Afghanistan lacks everything, the civil war in Myanmar intensifies.<\/p>\n
What can we do?
\nFeeling guilty for the misery elsewhere does not help anyone.
\nA donation to an aid organisation helps – and gives us the feeling that at least we are not looking away.
\nAlthough we must realise that not everyone in the Netherlands has a wallet big enough for that.
\nAnd furthermore, each of us can pray, fast and do what we are called to do in our own place:
\nTo try to be brothers and sisters to one another.
\nMoses was tending the sheep of his father-in-law. God called him from the burning bush.<\/p>\n
God wanted to make him a shepherd of men.
\nOf course, Moses objected: “Then who are you? I cannot speak, they will not believe me.
\nNevertheless, Moses followed that voice and led his people to freedom and finally to the Promised Land.
\nWhat is my calling?
\nWhat responsibility have I taken on?
\nCan God call on me?
\nThese are some of the questions raised by today’s first reading.
