Confirmation

The Roman Catholic Church has three sacraments to welcome someone: baptism, (first) communion and confirmation. At Confirmation, we receive the Holy Spirit, the spirit that animated Christ and guides the Church. We are being equipped as disciples of Jesus to participate in Jesus’ work in the world.

Children, who have been baptized and made their First Communion can receive Confirmation. In the Netherlands, the minimum age to be formed is 12.

For adults, a different trajectory applies.

With sufficient interest, preparation for Holy Confirmation will begin in the fall (for children ages 12 and up). Preparation consists of about eight meetings. Confirmation is usually celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost. Guidance is provided by Father Ward Biemans SJ and a volunteer. In case of insufficient registrations, referral will be made to the Confirmation preparation at the Nicolas Basilica, Prins Hendrikkade 73.
