God called Moses

We feel powerless, while the images and stories flood us: Ukraine is on fire, Afghanistan lacks everything, the civil war in Myanmar intensifies.

What can we do?
Feeling guilty for the misery elsewhere does not help anyone.
A donation to an aid organisation helps – and gives us the feeling that at least we are not looking away.
Although we must realise that not everyone in the Netherlands has a wallet big enough for that.
And furthermore, each of us can pray, fast and do what we are called to do in our own place:
To try to be brothers and sisters to one another.
Moses was tending the sheep of his father-in-law. God called him from the burning bush.

God wanted to make him a shepherd of men.
Of course, Moses objected: “Then who are you? I cannot speak, they will not believe me.
Nevertheless, Moses followed that voice and led his people to freedom and finally to the Promised Land.
What is my calling?
What responsibility have I taken on?
Can God call on me?
These are some of the questions raised by today’s first reading.
Many questions – the answers are different for each person.
