Jesus did not talk down to people. He did not say things in order to be liked. In this weekend’s gospel, he shows that people from outside their own circle sometimes understand better what faith is about than the hard core. The gospel certainly does not say “own people first”. As a church, we can benefit from this: how are we attractive to outsiders, and what can we learn from people outside our own club?
