Blessing in Lockdown Time

The Baptism of Jesus and the mission of the Church. Sunday 9 January we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. These are the weeks of Revelation. The Lord shows himself to the world: to the wise men from the East, to the people seeking conversion around John the Baptist and at the wedding of Cana. At the Baptism in the Jordan, Jesus joins the people who say out loud that they need conversion: when he comes out of the water, the Father lets them know who Jesus is: his much-loved Son. The Spirit who accompanied Jesus on his mission passed on to us. That is why Pope Francis has such confidence in the future of the Church and in the process of the Synod: the Holy Spirit is with us. The Baptism of Jesus and our Confirmation belong together.

This weekend’s Homily is by Father Jan Stuyt SJ.

Bless this day
The people who cannot go outside
The people who feel locked in
The people who are locked in.

Bless this day
The people who are locked up inside
The people who feel locked in
The people who seek space and breath.

Bless this day
The people who can go outside
The people who greet each other
The people who give each other space.
