In recent weeks, days, we have been confronted with another flood of refugees. In such a situation, Europe closes its borders to the majority of these refugees. We make sure that countries closer to the war and disaster areas take care of the refugees. If necessary, we pay these countries for this, as long as the refugees stay far away. Then we can remain deaf and dumb at their cries for help.
In the first reading this weekend, Isaiah speaks of God’s vengeance for all the injustices that people do to one another. And in the Gospel, Jesus says to a deaf-mute: Open up!
What do refugees and our faith have to do with each other?
